How Reading Has Impacted My Knowledge - Esther Oluyemo

Great Men you've seen, heard of and read about have been whom they are today through reading.
Reading is said to be the act of looking at and understanding of a written or printed word or symbols. Also, reading means to utter aloud written or printed words.
Knowledge on the other hand means the state of understanding the information one has learned. In other words , it is said to be the skills one has gained.

I used to have an awful memory that i can't remember what i've eaten for breakfast let alone things like: "the last topic in English Language class" , "My Mother's age, My teacher's name, My date of birth, e.t.c , but when i started reading consistently i found out that i can now remember things much easier. I have to say, it is a pretty sure bet that reading has somehow improved my knowledge. Many times we're certain of what we really want in life yet i've found that activities like reading shows me things i didn't know about myself; my mind will drift to things that i'd really like to do and it wouldn't be long when those little lapses in reading start to cycle.

Reading is relaxing in the sense that when I read, it relaxes my brain, makes it active and also exercises my brain too just as physical exercise is to our body to keep the brain sharp and at alert always.
It is reading that has made me very intelligent and outstanding in a way that if someone is to be addicted to drugs , the drugs will surely over rule his life, drug will be the most important thing to him , same is applicable to reading, through reading I've been able to learn more vocabularies and spellings, this has made me active and creative in class. With reading, I've acquired greater knowledge of many things in history and daily living.
Through reading I have learnt that It reduces stress in such a way that when I am reading a book , my mind shifts gear where I might have had a stressful day, a book can easily distract me and reading made me understand that fictional books are fantastic so reading fictional books is perfect before bedtime. Though sometimes it's hard to drop the book because of the suspense in it, its really good! You will be relaxed . Furthermore,  I have figured out that reading improved me on general knowledge and more importantly have been able to spot patterns quicker and if one can spot pattern quicker then one's analytical skills recieves a boost.
In conclusion,  reading has helped in my writing aspect, considering that reading improves vocabulary and critical thinking, I feel like a better writer as I'm constantly surrounding myself with works from people who are better than me, that is why English Language class in High School makes me read "The Classics" ,that is why Art students learn to copy masterpieces so they know what creating something incredible looks like , the more you read the better the writer you'll become. Also, all successful writers will tell you that in order to write well, you need to read everyday, you'll be surprised at the words you start incorporating into your writing.
Never forget, Readers are Leaders!

Esther Oluyemo is a young intelligent writer.
