Police impound 84 vehicles for traffic law violation

A Joint Lagos State Task Force comprising the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and officials of the Special Task Force on the Environment late Thursday impounded about 73 commercial motor bikes popularly known as okada and 11 other vehicles, for allegedly operating outside their designated routes. Some of drivers who plied 'one-way' also had their vehicles impounded by the security team. Among the vehicles impounded were two commercial buses, two pick-up vans and seven private vehicles. The Commander of the RRS, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Olatunji Disu and the Special Task Force Chairman, Superintendent of Police (SP) Bukola Abe who personally led the team, carried out the raids at Oshodi under-bridge, Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Mile 2 and Ikeja. Disu noted that the exercise was a joint routine operation, adding that government would not tolerate recklessness and flouting of traffic laws which, according to him, were made to check motorists' excesses and promote orderliness in the society. "Lagos must be made free from gridlocks. Motorists should obey traffic laws and be considerate to other roads users at all times," he stated. He added that the owners of the impounded vehicles would be made to face the wrath of the law.
