NUT, NAPTAN mourn Animashaun

More encomiums have poured in for the founder of the National Parent- Teacher-Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Babs Animashaun, with the Nigerian Union of Teachers, describing him as a pillar of education in the country. NAPTAN also described the late educationist as a father of all teachers in the country. The leadership of the associations spoke on Tuesday following the death of the educationist. Animashun, 77, died in Lagos on Sunday. He died at the First Cardiology Consultant Hospital, Ikoyi, Lagos of a heart-related ailment. He has been buried according to Islamic rite on Sunday. The NUT President, Michael Alogba-Olukoya, who expressed shock at the death, said Animashaun was a defender of the oppressed. The educationist, Alogba- Olukoya added, was a sound believer and advocate of public education. The Lagos State NUT Chairman, Segun Raheem, also said Nigerians would remember the late educationist for his humility and selfless service. Raheem said, “Let me register the condolence of all the teachers in Lagos State over the death of our great pillar of educational growth in Nigeria. “Babs Animashaun brought parents’ involvement into education because of his love and passion for his country. “In his life time, he believes government alone cannot provide good and quality education without the support of parents and he formed what we have as NAPTAN today in Nigeria. “We have lost a great gem. “It will take time and energy to fill the vacuum his death has created.”
